Spotted in the window of David Drummond, Cecil Court – my namesake on the playbill of the Prince of Wales theatre in the 1880s.

Full text reads:

“Engagement, for Six Nights only, of the Great E. H. DOYLE.  Character Vocal Comedian, Versatile Variety Artiste, Terpsichorean King, Winner of the Championship of the World, at Cooke’s Circus, Manchester, DEFEATING 14 OF THE PICKED DANCERS OF EUROPE.”

Winner of the Championship of the World?  I really hope this guy is related to me somehow.
