I wandered down Bishopsgate during my lunch break, hoping to see Molotov cocktails flying through the air (or at least a good old fashioned scrap), and returned sadly disappointed. It was all rather nice, really. People sitting around in the street, on a beautiful spring day, having a great big picnic. Boardgames were played – Monopoly, no less. I’m sure the irony was deliberate. Life size snakes and ladders – or should I say, flowers and roads – looked like lots of fun.
Games, fancy dress, a little bit of dancing and some enthusiastic drumming – the closest the City ever gets to a carnival! On the whole, the atmosphere was relaxed and peaceful.
People should riot more often.
